Bisexual Awareness Week is September 17th-24th
From our friends at GLAAD: "Bisexual+ Awareness Week seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bi+ (pansexual, fluid, no label, queer, etc.) community. #BiWeek draws attention to the experiences, while also celebrating the resiliency of, the bisexual+ community.Throughout #BiWeek, allies and bi+ people learn about the history, culture, community, and current policy priorities of bi+ communities. On September 23, GLAAD & BiNet USA invite you to participate in Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day, an event promoting bi+ visibility."
Visibility is an important aspect of education and the movement to creating safer and more affirming spaces for youth in our community. Odyssey works to educate youth participants and Spokane about the stories and lives of Bisexual people throughout history, pop-culture, and right here in our community. An awareness event like BiWeek allows us to celebrate valued members of the LGBTQ community who's identity is often overlooked in classrooms and discussions. As was shared earlier this week on Odyssey's social media, youth are frustrated by the erasure of bisexual identities as part of larger stories. It's time to celebrate the Bisexual Community fully in all parts of life.
